The Name of Jesus in Spiritual Combat

Did you know that the Name of Jesus is to be used in combat against the unseen forces that surround us? The Bible tells us that we have authority in the Name of Jesus against all powers of darkness.

“These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak in new languages. They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won’t hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed.” (Mark 16:17-18 NLT)

Are you a believer and follower of Jesus? If so, these signs will accompany all those who believe, when they are done in Jesus’ name. We have a right to speak with tongues in the Name of Jesus, and due to the authority in Jesus’ name, we can lay hands on the sick and they will be healed.

“Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20 NLT)

The Authority of Jesus

Jesus literally said, “all authority is given to Me in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go…” It is up to us to do something about some of these situations that exist, whether it’s laying hands on the sick and praying in the Name of Jesus, or for other spiritual needs people have such as deliverance from demons. Jesus has authorized us to do so. He is sending us out to make disciples of all nations.

“I also tell you this: If two of you agree here on earth concerning anything you ask, my Father in heaven will do it for you. For where two or three gather together as my followers, I am there among them.” (Matthew 18:19-20 NLT)

Jesus promised us that where two believers agree on earth about anything they ask, His Father will do it for us. Jesus also promised that where two or three of His followers gathered together, He will be among them. Jesus is with us in the power and authority of His Name.

Am I still learning how to apply this? YES!! Do I believe it. YES!! It is in God’s Word. I want to grow in my knowledge of the authority I have as a believer in Jesus and then to obey His commands. Jesus is my King, and I am His servant.

The 12 disciples did as Jesus commanded them, with the authority He gave them, and they went about preaching the Good News of the Kingdom of God, healing the sick and casting out devils. Later Jesus sent 72 other disciples to do the same…

The 72 Disciples Sent By Jesus

1 “The Lord now chose seventy-two other disciples and sent them ahead in pairs to all the towns and places he planned to visit.

2 These were his instructions to them: “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.

3 Now go, and remember that I am sending you out as lambs among wolves.

4 Don’t take any money with you, nor a traveler’s bag, nor an extra pair of sandals. And don’t stop to greet anyone on the road.

5 “Whenever you enter someone’s home, first say, ‘May God’s peace be on this house.’

6 If those who live there are peaceful, the blessing will stand; if they are not, the blessing will return to you.

7 Don’t move around from home to home. Stay in one place, eating and drinking what they provide. Don’t hesitate to accept hospitality, because those who work deserve their pay.

8 “If you enter a town and it welcomes you, eat whatever is set before you.

9 Heal the sick, and tell them, ‘The Kingdom of God is near you now.’”

(Luke 10:1-9 NLT)

The 72 Return Rejoicing

Later the 72 disciples returned, excited to share with Jesus what the authority of Jesus’ Name had done for them as they used His Name to pray for the sick and oppressed…

“17 When the seventy-two disciples returned, they joyfully reported to him, “Lord, even the demons obey us when we use your name!”

18 “Yes,” he told them, “I saw Satan fall from heaven like lightning!

19 Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you.

20 But don’t rejoice because evil spirits obey you; rejoice because your names are registered in heaven.”

Jesus’ Prayer of Thanksgiving

21 At that same time Jesus was filled with the joy of the Holy Spirit, and he said, “O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike. Yes, Father, it pleased you to do it this way.

22 “My Father has entrusted everything to me. No one truly knows the Son except the Father, and no one truly knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”

(Luke 10:17-22 NLT)

Jesus Gave Us the Right to Use His Name

Rev. E. W. Kenyon wrote, when Jesus gave us the legal right to use His Name, the Father knew all that Jesus’ Name would imply as we pray for oppressed souls. It is the Father’s joy to recognize the Name of His Son, Jesus.

Jesus gave us the resources of Heaven to draw on. Like a blank cheque given to us by Jesus, signed by His Name, and He allows us to fill in the resource of healing, provision, the Holy Spirit or whatever He came to bring us.

12 “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father.

13 You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father.

14 Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it!

(John 14:12-14 NLT)

Why not join me in learning to fully believe and apply Jesus’ promises and pray in the power of Jesus’ Name. Thank you God for knowing our hearts and hearing our prayers. We want to be disciples who go out and do what you told us to do. You will always be with us. Thank you for the authority we have to do this in your mighty Name, Jesus.
