Jesus Birth Revealed

Why Did God Choose Mary To Become Jesus’ Mother?

At the exact right time, God called the angel, Gabriel, to swiftly fly to the Earth to find a girl named Mary. Why God chose Mary, the Bible does not say, but we do know that:

“the eyes of the Lord search back and forth across the whole earth, looking for people whose hearts are perfect toward him.” (2 Chronicles 16:9 TLB)

Excitement In Heaven

As the time arrived for the birth of Jesus, there must have been great excitement among the angels in Heaven. This was the most important event of all time. The Lord, whom they adored, was about to leave the glory of Heaven and go live on one of the smallest planets He had created.

He was going to show how much He loved all of His creatures—even those who had rebelled against Him—coming as a little baby to live as a man among people.

Mary Was Highly Favoured By God

No doubt Mary was the best young woman God could find just then. He had been watching her all her life and knew her heart was “perfect toward him.” God believed He could trust Mary with this very great honour.

Of course, He knew exactly which town and street she lived on. When Gabriel arrived in Nazareth, he found Mary and said, “Greetings, you who are greatly favoured. The Lord is with you. You are blessed among all women.

Mary was startled and wondered who this visitor might be. She was an unknown girl in the village of Nazareth.

God’s Wonderful Promises

Seeing how frightened she was, Gabriel spoke gently, “Don’t be afraid, Mary, you have found favour with God. You will have a baby, and give birth to a son, and call his name, Jesus. He shall be great, and be called the Son of the Highest. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor, King David. Your son shall reign over the people of Israel forever, and his kingdom will never end.”

Mary didn’t think this was possible. Her son a king! She thought she must be dreaming. It couldn’t happen. She wasn’t even married. She was only engaged to Joseph.

Gabriel knew Mary’s doubts. He told her something wonderful would happen to her. “The Holy Spirit will come on you, Mary, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow you. The child which shall be born of you shall be called the “Son of God.”

More Incredible News

Then seeing that Mary still doubted, Gabriel told her a secret that must have surprised her as well. “Your cousin, Elisabeth, who they thought was too old to have a baby, has already been pregnant for 6 months.”

“Elizabeth having a baby!” WOW! She must have wondered how Gabriel knew it would be a boy.

Gabriel smiled, “With God nothing is impossible,” he said.

Mary humbly bowed her head and said, “I am the maid of the Lord. Let this happen to me, just as you said.”

Just then, Gabriel vanished, and Mary was left wondering what all of this meant, and what would happen to her. She was excited to think that God had honoured her with the baby who would be the “Messiah.” It seemed too good to be true, but it was real and it was true. The baby was on his way.
