Jesus The Promised Messiah

Jesus The Promised Messiah

The Woman At The Well

When Jesus spoke with a woman at Jacob’s well, He told her all about her past life. She said, “I know the Messiah is coming—the one who is called Christ. When He comes, He will explain everything to us.”

Then Jesus told her plainly, “I am the Messiah!” (John 4:25-26 TLB)

Did You Ever Want A Baby Brother or Sister?

If your parent told you that a baby brother or sister was coming soon, you probably waited eagerly for the baby to arrive. How happy you were when the baby came, and you loved your brother or sister.

For hundreds of years before Jesus Christ was born, fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters were hoping their baby would be the special one called, “The Messiah.”

Nobody knew just when or where he would be born. Expectant mothers hoped they would have the privilege of becoming the mother of the Messiah.

The Messiah Would Crush Satan

You see, this baby was part of a promise made by God, way back in the Garden of Eden. After Adam and Eve had made their sad mistake, disobeyed God, believed Satan the serpent’s lies, and ate the forbidden fruit. After that God had told them they had to leave their beautiful home in the Garden of Eden.

God promised Eve and Adam that one day, an offspring of Eve, would crush Satan’s head, and Satan would bruise the Messiah’s heel. Someday this wonderful baby would be born who would break the power of Satan and regain all that man had lost because of sin.

Perhaps Eve thought that her first baby Cain would be the one. But Cain turned out to be a murderer who killed his brother, Abel. Eve’s third son, Seth, was not the promised Messiah either.

As years went by, little girls grew up hoping they would become the Messiah’s mother. For hundreds and then thousands of years they waited.

God Gave Details About The Messiah

God made promises to His people, Israel, that the Messiah would be coming, and as the time drew nearer, God’s prophets were told more specific details.

Moses said, “The Lord God will raise up a Prophet (the Messiah) from the nation of Israel, who they should listen to.”

The prophet Isaiah was given specific predictions, “Behold, a virgin shall conceive a son, and shall call His name Immanuel, which means, God is with us.”

Isaiah also wrote, “Unto us a child is born, a son is given, and the government shall be on his shoulders.”

The prophet Micah revealed that God had told him, the Messiah would be born in the town of Bethlehem, and the Messiah would become the ruler of Israel.

People Forgot About The Messiah

As the years went by, few remembered Micah and Isaiah’s predictions about the coming Messiah. The Jewish people had been taken into captivity and everybody was discouraged.

Then the prophet, Daniel, claimed that the angel, Gabriel, told him when the baby was to arrive. It would be another 500 years from Daniel’s prophecy. And he was right. But, once again, that was a long wait, and people came to think that the wonderful baby would never come.

Great News From Heaven!

When many had given up hope, something happened. The angel Gabriel came again, this time not to a prophet, but to a young lady, named Mary. He brought great news from Heaven!
