Reading a book aloud together with Daniel over the past several weeks, has really impacted my heart and changed my perspective on how I want to live my life and how I use my time. The book is called “Driven By Eternity” and is written by John Bevere.
I am sharing these thoughts, in the hope that they will inspire you, my reader and friend, to consider your life, how you are living it, and what the eternal significance of your life as you’re living it today will be. I’m asking the Holy Spirit to change me in whatever way He wants to, so that my life will count for eternity.
As believers in Jesus, we have made Him our Saviour and Lord, and we are destined for Heaven, not Hell. Thank you Jesus.
“I have written this to you who believe in the Son of God (in Jesus), so that you may know you have eternal life.” (1 John 5:13 TLB)
Try imagining this scenario: You are given one day, today, and how you spend today, this 24-hour period, will determine how you spend the next thousand years. WOW!
A thousand years would date back to before Canada existed as a country, long before Columbus discovered America. That is a very long time.
If the rewards you will enjoy, the position you will hold, where you live, and everything else for a thousand years, will all be determined by how you spend this one single day, what would that do to you? Do you think you would give today your best? How would you live? Would you live differently than you’re living right now?
Would obeying Jesus, your Master, take absolute precedence? Would you treat people differently? The list of questions and perhaps changes in our day could be endless.
Think about the length of eternity. No matter how long we live on this earth, our time here compared to eternity is actually “zero.”
God wants your life to count. He wants you to be a winner for eternity. In order to win, you and I must develop discipline and self-control and live for Jesus with purpose. Jesus spent His life doing the “will of My Father.” That does not mean abandoning your family, or quitting your job today, but rather, listening to the Holy Spirit throughout your day and doing what He whispers.
We are not competing against others for our eternal rewards, only ourselves. Our goal is to be well-pleasing to Jesus in everything we do.
“So our aim is to please him always in everything we do, whether we are here in this body or away from this body and with him in heaven.” (2 Corinthians 5:9 TLB)
Read the Bible to learn what our Lord desires in the way we treat people, what we pursue, what we give our time to, how we affect others for eternity, how we give to His kingdom, do we forgive others, etc.
The bottom line is: Let’s all live to win rewards that endure for eternity.
Then someday we will hear Jesus tell us, “Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!” (Matthew 5:21 TLB)
P. S. If anyone reading this blog post is interested in joining me in a small group in my home in Cambridge, Ontario please get in touch with me. I’m thinking of starting this group which will go through a study of John Bevere’s, “Driven By Eternity” book and and Bible study workbook, probably every second week, on either Tuesday or Friday evenings, beginning in January 2024.
We would enjoy fellowship, supper, coffee and tea together, my treat (my chef name is Dr Disaster). I actually enjoy cooking, though I’m no expert. That would be followed by some time going through John Bevere’s study, time sharing what God is doing in our lives, and praying together for our needs and cares to our Heavenly Father, who loves us and hears our prayers. I want us to grow into a more intimate relationship with Jesus through the presence of His Holy Spirit. Wish Hilda was here to be part of this with us, but we will see her someday soon. Love you Hilda!
