God Chose You Long Ago?

Have any of you watched the series called “The Chosen“? It’s about a group of people with varied pasts who Jesus, God’s Son, chose to be with Him and follow Him, when He lived on the earth about two thousand years ago.

This motley group included fishermen, a tax collector, a woman with a shady past, a revolutionary fighting against the Roman soldiers, and other ordinary people. They accepted Jesus’ call to follow Him. They realized that Jesus was unique. He taught with authority about God and what God wanted us to do. Jesus was filled with compassion for people. He shared wisdom about how to live life to the full. Through miracles and healings, Jesus proved that He was no ordinary man. He was who He claimed to be, the Son of God. These “chosen” followers came to believe that.

So, here we are, living life in the 21st century and for many of us, following Jesus and living the way that He taught still matters. How is that possible? It’s because we can be one of God’s “Chosen.” Yup, that’s what God’s Word the Bible says, about those who believe in Jesus and have asked Him to forgive their sins, and come live in their hearts. This is what Jesus said we need to do to be part of the “Chosen.” It’s what He called being “born again.” Not born again physically, but born again spiritually.

But what if we have not asked Jesus into our hearts and decided to follow Him. Are we still “Chosen?” God is inviting you today to believe that His Son Jesus died on the cross to take the punishment for every sin you have ever committed. Jesus will forgive you, just as He did me. He will take away the guilt of past failures, and give you a new spiritual heart. And God will give you His Holy Spirit to come live in your heart and help you do what is right, to do what God wants you to do.

Then you will become one of the “Chosen.”

The Bible says…

Dear friends, God the Father chose you long ago and knew you would become his children. And the Holy Spirit has been at work in your hearts, cleansing you with the blood of Jesus Christ and making you to please him. May God bless you richly and grant you increasing freedom from all anxiety and fear. (1 Peter 1:2 TLB)

I hope everyone who reads this is one of the “Chosen” or will believe in Jesus today, and become one of God’s “Chosen.” 🙂

Your friend,
Harold
