Our Heavenly Father invites us to visit with Him every day. It’s more than just the conscious realization that we should pray for our own needs. It’s not just to ask the Father for His help when someone we love needs a miracle. God’s love for us is calling, to come and spend time with Him. It is really visiting with the Father.
Few of us realize that the Father’s heart is longing for the companionship of His children. His love and hunger for this companionship is the reason He created man, and the reason He sent His son, Jesus, to set us free, to offer us eternal life with Him.
“Yes, God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him would not be lost but have eternal life.” John 3:16 ERV
The Father’s love for you and me impels Him to call us to Prayer, to spend time with Him.
As His children, we have the privilege and also the ability to stand in the presence of Almighty God, talk with Him and listen to Him. Jesus makes us righteous enough to stand in the Father’s presence without reproof or condemnation for our past.
It means that we are welcome to the Throne Room.
Few of us have ever realize this. It is sons and daughters visiting their Father. Children coming joyously into the presence of a Loving Parent.
God says to us, “Come to me all of you who are tired from the heavy burden you have been forced to carry. I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 ERV
It is the Father’s invitation to the Throne Room of Love.
For years and sometimes still, I feel as though I do not spend enough time in prayer. It’s like the enemy accuses me of not closing myself off to be alone with God. Actually, throughout our day, we can talk with God, through His Holy Spirit.
It’s not so much how long we pray, or where we pray, it’s that we “listen” to the Holy Spirit’s nudges. Perhaps the Spirit nudges us with a reminder to pray for a friend who is going through a hard time. Stop for a minute, and say a prayer for your friend. Ask God to heal or help them, in the Name of Jesus.
For us who are “Ambassadors of King Jesus,” we have been given the authority to pray in His Name. There is power in the Name of Jesus, and Jesus told us to ask our Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name.
“You didn’t choose me! I chose you! I appointed you to go and produce lovely fruit always, so that no matter what you ask for from the Father, using my name, he will give it to you.” John 15:16 TLB
I want to be led more and more by the Holy Spirit, to be directed throughout each day by God’s nudges. To listen for them, and then to obey them.
“The true children of God are those who let God’s Spirit lead them.” Romans 8:14 ERV
Listen for the Holy Spirit’s prompts during our days – maybe He’s nudging you to talk to a stranger as you walk along a trail, or while you wait at the grocery check-out, or when you notice the stress on the face of a co-worker in the office, or have a chance to help a class-mate with their school work, or encourage a neighbour by helping them with some yard work – maybe this is your God “appointment” for this moment. And if not, just share your smile or give a friendly greeting. Show others the Love of Jesus which shines through you, to this needy world.
The Father’s heart for companionship is not so much about taking 15 minutes out of our day for Him, as it is walking through the day, listening to Him, and doing what His Spirit prompts us to do. I’m writing this to myself as well as to encourage you.
Just had this amazing revelation – when we are in Heaven in our mansion – just imagine Jesus knocking on your door, and wanting to come in for a visit, to share a meal with you, to fellowship with you. What an honour that would be. King Jesus wanting to spend time with you in your home.
That is what we can do here, every day, spend time with the Father throughout each day, listening to His Spirit and doing what He tells us.
Your friend,
Harold
